Who am I?
I am currently studying in pursuit of a qualifying LLB Honours with the Open University. Having just completed the last of the four core modules, I am currently studying company law with a view to completing my degree by the end of 2011. I hope to take the Bar Professional Training Course thereafter and ultimately practice as a barrister. My current profession is in technology supporting exchange traded instruments, and I am a senior technical consultant at the New York Stock Exchange.
In addition to working full time in the City of London I am a director of a property management company which manages the estate on which I live in North London. I also live (at weekends) in mid Wales where I am a Church Warden and additionally sit on a conservation committee in a village in West Devon.
Why am I involved with the OULS?
Having learnt that there used to be an OU law society in the past but that it ceased due to lack of continuity, I was encouraged by the efforts of others to reincarnate this organisation. The success of any organisation like this relies on there being enough willing volunteers to make it happen; drawing on my experience in other voluntary activities I felt that I could contribute to the running of this society adding to the pool of resources to reduce the overall workload of each committee member.
My vision
I want to see this society grow into a future proof organisation that is capable of continuing long after the original founders have moved on. This requires a strong constitution with well thought out procedures and it is my desire to have played my small part in contributing to that legacy for future students. My goal is to see the OULS become a vibrant society, linking distance learning students and giving them a sense of community, adding value to their studies and enhancing the OU brand within the legal profession.
